Today, I embark on an ambitious goal that I may come to regret, as it feels a bit daunting. This year, I plan to capture a significant moment or memory in photo + video, write an original piece of music inspired by it, and release the music and visuals every month. By doing this, at the end of the year, I will not only have an album of original music, I will also have a little short-film made up of the significant moments the year held. Today is the first day of the challenge and I am so happy to present you with the first piece of music, not so originally titled “January” I hope you will follow along on the journey - I will need the accountability! Enjoy this first installment, and I can’t wait to be back at it next month (maybe you can guess what the next piece will be called!)

January perhaps more than any month is infused with myth and magic - the time for new beginnings, starting over, dreaming. As the clock marked the passing of another year, I sat down at the piano, the open window letting in a steady patter of birdsong, and began to play this simple, circular pattern. With its piano foundation, and hybrid organic+ electronic orchestration, January is the sound of starting over.
